Digital Twin

What is a Digital Twin?

A Digital Twin is an exact virtual replica of a real physical object, machine, process, or entire system. It is a 3D model: a dynamic copy that is continuously fed with real-world data.

Think of it as an interactive video call. The real-world object is equipped with sensors that continuously measure temperature, vibrations, speed, and pressure. This data is instantly sent to the digital model. If the physical object heats up, its digital counterpart heats up on screen at exactly the same time.

How it works and what it solves

01

Predictive maintenance

If sensors on a real turbine detect a minor anomaly, the Digital Twin can calculate precisely when a component is at risk of failure, allowing it to be replaced before a breakdown occurs.
02

Simulazioni senza rischiaRisk-free simulations

Want to see how a factory would respond if you doubled production speed? Rather than stopping real machinery, you can run the test safely on the Digital Twin.
03

Continuous optimization

The software analyzes historical data from the virtual twin to identify more efficient ways to operate the real facility, saving energy and resources.
04

Faster design and development

It enables the entire prototype to be designed, tested, and refined digitally. As a result, products can reach the market faster and with significantly lower development costs.
05

Improved collaboration

It centralizes all data in a single, intuitive visual interface. Whether it is a field technician, a manager, or an external supplier, everyone sees the same real-time, up-to-date situation.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The key difference lies in the bidirectional, real-time data flow. A traditional 3D simulation is static: it is created using historical or theoretical data to study how an object should behave. A Digital Twin, on the other hand, is live. Because it is connected to IoT sensors installed on the physical object, it is continuously updated.
There is no need to digitize an entire factory from the start. SMEs can take a gradual approach by creating a digital twin of one critical machine or a single stage of the production process - typically the one causing the most bottlenecks or failures. This significantly reduces initial costs and makes it possible to see an immediate return on investment.
A Digital Twin is not a single piece of software that can simply be purchased and installed. It is the integrated combination of three technological pillars: Sensors and IoT (Internet of Things), Cloud Infrastructure and Data Platforms, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning algorithms.
